The Fin & Tonic, Sunday Night

Out here, the days were spent in the sun, enjoying the beach, drinks, a good swim or five; and then there were the evening hours, after they'd had dinner at the diner on the porch, where Lucifer searched valiantly for other ways to relax.

No, not just that. Perverts.

Tonight, he'd found himself on the Fin & Tonic's quite luxurious sofa, with a large bucket of popcorn. He paged through Netflix, searching for just. The right. Terrible action movie. Having found it, he leaned forward to grab a refill from his massive pitcher of margarita.

Should he call over Octavia or Duke? Ah, they'd find him if they wanted to join him, surely.

Octavia shrugged a shoulder.

"Everything's shifting."

And they were not immune.

"I didn't expect us to," Lucifer said. He shook his head, looking up at the screen and the movie - which had already been going for some time. "I just want to be able to be there for him, too."

"There's three of us," Octavia replied, quietly. "This is just making it obvious. How we're all connected."

"Yes," Lucifer said, heaving a sigh. "Unfortunate."

Octavia wasn't going to comment on how she'd seen the fault lines before.

Instead, she just said, "The flipside of everything that makes it worth it."

Lucifer sighed. "I suppose," he said. "But now we have to disentangle this mess."

"Yeah," Octavia muttered, quietly. "We do."

[my_own_advocate]

"What do you feel needs disentangling between the two of us?" Lucifer asked. "Is there something I've missed?"

Octavia shrugged, helplessly.

"I think we just finished yelling about what had... apparently not sat right with me."

[my_own_advocate]

Lucifer nodded. "Are we done with that one?" he checked. "Not fishing for another argument, just trying to make sure I don't leave anything festering."

Octavia was quiet for a moment, thinking about it.

"We should assume less."

[my_own_advocate]

"Clearly," Lucifer agreed. "Though... I'm not sure how to go about figuring out if we're on the same page when we're in a three-way discussion like that."

"I wasn't really planning to start any more three-way conversations like that any time soon," Octavia admitted.

Yes, even with the things they'd somewhat managed to clear up.

"Well, I think it's become fairly obvious that we can't plan these things," Lucifer pointed out.

"I know," Octavia muttered, mildly. "I'm just saying."

[my_own_advocate]

"And I don't think there's any ideal circumstances for any talks," Lucifer added.

Octavia exhaled a quiet sigh.

"I wasn't trying to imply there were."

[my_own_advocate]

"I know," Lucifer said. "I'm just... thinking out loud."

[okteiviakom]

"Everything feels very easy to hear like an accusation, lately," Octavia replied, with just a little hint of a rasp in there.

She wasn't just talking about herself, no.

Lucifer sighed. "Yes, the both of you do seem to have trouble with that."

[okteiviakom]

"That's what you get for getting your wires this crossed, I guess," Octavia muttered. "Start seeing enemies where there aren't any."

[my_own_advocate]

"And then you fight or flee," Lucifer said. "And Duke used to-- fawn..."

[okteiviakom]

Octavia nodded.

"And now he fights, too."

[my_own_advocate]

"Not an ideal combination in the rock-paper-scissors of relationship arguments," Lucifer agreed.

"It's not supposed to be a situation where someone always folds," Octavia muttered.

Quieter still.
