The Fin & Tonic, Sunday Night

Out here, the days were spent in the sun, enjoying the beach, drinks, a good swim or five; and then there were the evening hours, after they'd had dinner at the diner on the porch, where Lucifer searched valiantly for other ways to relax.

No, not just that. Perverts.

Tonight, he'd found himself on the Fin & Tonic's quite luxurious sofa, with a large bucket of popcorn. He paged through Netflix, searching for just. The right. Terrible action movie. Having found it, he leaned forward to grab a refill from his massive pitcher of margarita.

Should he call over Octavia or Duke? Ah, they'd find him if they wanted to join him, surely.

Lucifer snorted. "Well, at least the crazy pills work for you."

"Exceptionally well," Octavia rasped in agreement. "At least when things aren't going hugely to shit."

"And even then it's not quite as catastrophic as it could have been. You haven't run off into the woods for a month."

Octavia couldn't help her tiny sigh. "Well, right now I can't, so..."

"Ah, but you didn't when things started going wrong either," Lucifer pointed out.

Octavia glanced up at him with faintly raised eyebrows. "And I couldn't then, either."

[my_own_advocate]

"Right," Lucifer allowed, after a moment. "I'm sorry. But you didn't run off anywhere else, either."

"No," Octavia agreed. "Not that there was anywhere else to go, either, but I also didn't try."

Because she would've tried to find a place, had the urge come to her. He was right about that.

"I'd call that progress," Lucifer said. "Even if the circumstances are terrible."

"I've... committed." More or less. With the occasional bump, like cancelling all of her therapy appointments for weeks and weeks after the trouble activated. "To not getting dragged back down into the hole."

"I'm glad," Lucifer said quietly.

Octavia shrugged.

"Didn't kill me." Could have. "But I'm not giving it another chance."
