The Fin & Tonic, Sunday Night

Out here, the days were spent in the sun, enjoying the beach, drinks, a good swim or five; and then there were the evening hours, after they'd had dinner at the diner on the porch, where Lucifer searched valiantly for other ways to relax.

No, not just that. Perverts.

Tonight, he'd found himself on the Fin & Tonic's quite luxurious sofa, with a large bucket of popcorn. He paged through Netflix, searching for just. The right. Terrible action movie. Having found it, he leaned forward to grab a refill from his massive pitcher of margarita.

Should he call over Octavia or Duke? Ah, they'd find him if they wanted to join him, surely.

Octavia exhaled a quiet sigh.

"I wasn't trying to imply there were."

"I know," Lucifer said. "I'm just... thinking out loud."

"Everything feels very easy to hear like an accusation, lately," Octavia replied, with just a little hint of a rasp in there.

She wasn't just talking about herself, no.

Lucifer sighed. "Yes, the both of you do seem to have trouble with that."

"That's what you get for getting your wires this crossed, I guess," Octavia muttered. "Start seeing enemies where there aren't any."

"And then you fight or flee," Lucifer said. "And Duke used to-- fawn..."

[okteiviakom]

Octavia nodded.

"And now he fights, too."

[my_own_advocate]

"Not an ideal combination in the rock-paper-scissors of relationship arguments," Lucifer agreed.

"It's not supposed to be a situation where someone always folds," Octavia muttered.

Quieter still.

[my_own_advocate]

Lucifer let out a breath. "No," he agreed. "It shouldn't be."

"But I guess we'll... figure it out."

In time. Hopefully.

"Just as long as we continue speaking to one another," Lucifer murmured.

"That's usually how the fights start."

Ha ha.

[my_own_advocate]

Lucifer snorted. "True," he said. "But still."

[okteiviakom]

"I know," Octavia muttered. "But it's hard."

Obviously.

"I'll talk to Dr. Baker about it."

[my_own_advocate]

Lucifer nodded.

"I hope she helps."

[okteiviakom]

"Me too," Octavia replied. "Because I don't think I can do this on my own, or just with you."

[my_own_advocate]

"Well, that's why we have therapists," Lucifer said wryly. "To help us when no one else can."

"And with what the crazy pills can't fix."

Her feelings on the C word had always been much easier than what Duke had exhibited after getting his diagnosis.

Lucifer snorted. "Well, at least the crazy pills work for you."

[okteiviakom]

"Exceptionally well," Octavia rasped in agreement. "At least when things aren't going hugely to shit."

[my_own_advocate]

"And even then it's not quite as catastrophic as it could have been. You haven't run off into the woods for a month."

[okteiviakom]

Octavia couldn't help her tiny sigh. "Well, right now I can't, so..."

[my_own_advocate]

"Ah, but you didn't when things started going wrong either," Lucifer pointed out.

[okteiviakom]

Octavia glanced up at him with faintly raised eyebrows. "And I couldn't then, either."
