Deck of the Cape Rouge, Friday Morning

Life appeared to have settled some on the Rouge - and in the mansion, where a great deal of conversations had taken place over the last few weeks. Lucifer, for his part, rather enjoyed the calm-- the heavy burden of foreboding and tension had lifted entirely from his shoulders.

It had been, he had to admit, quite a while since the last time he felt that way.

And so he found himself out on the deck surprisingly early, wrapped in an incredibly thick and clearly expensive blanket, sipping from a mug of hot chocolate, feeling all right with the world.

In fact, he might have even been humming one of the classics under his breath.

Sometimes sacrifices had to be made. He'd still be able to hold her in there.

And right now, Octavia was still clinging to him, her arms around his neck. "You're welcome to me."

"I'll be responsible with that power," Lucifer said. He stepped inside, closing the door behind them with a nudge of a shoulder and a shove of his feet.

Then he lowered her down into the mess of pillows.

Octavia let him, but letting go was a different matter altogether.

"Responsible, hmm?"

Lucifer laughed, following her down. "Would you prefer I abuse the privilege?" he asked, attempting to worm his way out of his jacket without leaving her.

He was only somewhat successful.

It was okay, Octavia could be content with idly running her hands over his chest while he was doing that. It was still contact. And helpful.

"Well, you can be pretty good at that."

"It's not a Sunday night," Lucifer pointed out.

He finally managed to get out of his jacket, tossing it carelessly aside.

Then he stretched out an arm and fumbled for a nearby blanket to pull over the two of them.

"I'm sure light abuse is allowed on other days of the week," Octavia quipped, as she very helpfully slid her arms around him again.

So helpful. Clearly.

"Was someone hoping for a spanking?" Lucifer teased, his arms slipping around her waist as soon as the blanket was secure.

He kissed her.

Was Octavia supposed to answer? Maybe she had another quip ready.

But she was kissing him now, too busy.

Lucifer melted into it, his fingers sliding down, and then under her shirt.

There was always such safety in this.

Octavia gave him a little hum of approval when his hand found her skin.

Her own played with his hair a little.

"I adore you," Lucifer said softly. His fingertips slid up and down her side. "How do you always make me feel this way?"

"Sheer luck," Octavia whispered.

[my_own_advocate]

"That's an impressive streak of it," Lucifer murmured.

[okteiviakom]

"I guess I'm really lucky sometimes," Octavia murmured in reply, as her hand slid lower, her fingertips teasing at the skin under the collar of his shirt. "I was when I met you."

Lucifer chuckled softly. "You thought I was annoying," he murmured.

[okteiviakom]

"Sometimes luck isn't obvious," Octavia retorted. You know, gently. "Sometimes it takes a while."

[my_own_advocate]

"I was also rather too busy feeling sorry for myself to appreciate the moment," Lucifer agreed.

He pressed kisses along her face, against her nose, on the curve of her cheek.

It all tugged Octavia's lips into a tiny smile.

"You've figured it out since then, too."

[my_own_advocate]

"Oh, I take no moment for granted now," Lucifer said, smiling back at her.

[okteiviakom]

"Good," Octavia replied, trailing her fingertips along his neck, then up to his jaw. "See how we've grown."

[my_own_advocate]

"Cuddling in the pillow room on our boat," Lucifer murmured. "Who would have thought."

[okteiviakom]

"Nothing about this has been very predictable, has it?" Octavia replied. "Bad or good."

[my_own_advocate]

"No, none of it," Lucifer said quietly. "But I'm glad it has turned out as... seemingly enduring as it has."

[okteiviakom]

"Because we're putting in the work."

And ignoring the multiverses attempts at wrenching them apart, sometimes.
