Isla San Pedro, Chile, Thursday Evening

As always, the weather in Isla San Pedro improved markedly when the trio arrived, not too long before sunset. Lucifer didn't notice the change, happy as he was to return here. Especially with Duke's recent state of mind, a place to rest with few to no responsibilities seemed--

Well, perfect.

Shortly after arrival, he made good on his promise to Octavia: he set up a little campfire on the beach, brought out some pillows for everyone to sit on, and fish and vegetables to roast over the fire.

"I also brought some Turkish tea for us to heat up," he announced, flopping down on a pillow whilst brandishing a box.

"It's part of our collective charm," Duke agreed.

Octavia turned the bump into more of a lean, even though she had the cup and Duke had his skewered fish to worry about. Something in her needed the tethering effect of more touching.

"The willingness to get it on wherever?"

"However," Lucifer agreed. "Whenever."

Duke leaned against her in return, tipping his head to rest it against hers.

"We're easy," he said, trusting them to understand that he meant in this particular context and not, like, in general. (Very little about Duke was easy right now.) "So you don't have to be."

Octavia relaxed a little into the lean. (She hadn't been aware she hadn't been relaxed before.) "I'm not easy?" she rasped. "Rude."

Lucifer made a soft, fond noise at the sight of them. "We love you difficult."

Lucifer saved Duke from his anxiety spiral. Instead, he clicked his tongue and swayed Octavia side to side a little.

"Exactly."

Octavia let him. Even gave it a soft huff. "Well, the swimming sex is a better time than doing it on the sand."

Yes, that was clearly the takeaway from all of this.

Lucifer laughed softly. "Mm, like dolphins."

"Or otters," Duke pointed out, giving Octavia another nudge. ". . . Actually, I'm not sure if they have sex in the water or not."

He'd been too depressed even for Animal Planet lately.

"Maybe let's not get bogged down in that," Octavia suggested helpfully. (Sounding fondly amused.) "These otters might."

"We're very sexy otters."

"Absolutely," Duke agreed. "Though I think Tavi decided she's a raccoon? Even when it's not, you know, those times."

"I didn't decide anything," Octavia huffed, giving him a little bump. "I just think the island... decided for me."

"Do you prefer being a raccoon, or would you like giving being an otter a try?" Lucifer said, sipping his tea with a smile.

“I think you’d make an excellent otter, myself,” Duke said.

"Mochof, jaka." Well, it was clearly the highest of compliments. "Do I have to choose?"

No one had asked her to choose between shark and raccoon, either.

"Well, you can't be both at once," Lucifer pointed out sanely. "You could alternate, though, I suppose."

"I don't know. I think you could totally be both at once, if you really want to." He grinned. "I believe in you, gona."

Octavia swayed Duke a little, as if to communicate her approval of that logic. "And I don't think the lines are that clear to begin with," she decided. "We all have a lot of different facets, right?"

"...We're not talking about physical otters any longer, are we?"

Duke laughed. “Sorry, Luce. I at least never was.”

"Me neither."

Lucifer sighed. "I need more wine for these metaphors," he said, reaching behind him to-- ah, there was the wine.

"We mortals are confusing," Duke said sympathetically. "Insisting on being shark-raccoon-otters, but only on a spiritual level."
