Lucifer's Mansion, Sunday Night

There were plans to open the club - finally - and plans to go to Austria for a few days to see an opera - exciting - and Octavia had been doing better recently, so... Lucifer was in a good mood, actually, when Sunday came around.

So yes, the candles were out again tonight. And a rather imposing spread of seafood, picked up from the mainland. With mango rice, of course.

It was Octavia. Couldn't do without the mango rice.

"How do you feel about the snapper?"

At least no one was stuck with blue balls in this scenario, Lucifer thought vaguely, and then felt guilty about it.

But it looked like that, for now, he could do nothing but make soothing noises while she worked through... whatever this was.

Had he done something wrong?

It took a while, but eventually the sobs subsided and the shake of her shoulders went with them, and she was just... breathing.

Except she made a muted 'ugh' sort of noise, and said, "Can't breathe through my nose."

She sounded stuffy and hoarse. As could probably be expected.

"Would you like a glass of water or something?" Lucifer asked.

"I guess."

Even though that sounded like someone was going to have to move, and that... did not sound ideal.

Lucifer nodded. "Give me a moment," he whispered. "I'll be back soon."

His arms relaxed around her.

It took a moment after that before Octavia actually shifted away from him, and to sit on the bed instead.

Her ass still protested, but she didn't pay it as much attention now.

Lucifer slipped off the bed. He didn't go far, just ducking into the bathroom for a moment.

He grabbed a glass and ran the tap.

Octavia pulled her legs crossed, and rubbed her hands over her face, trying to wipe away some of the tear streaks still all over her cheeks.

Embarrassment was starting to take form, and she felt exhausted.

Lucifer swept back in quickly, holding the glass out for her. "There you go," he said softly.

"Thanks," Octavia muttered as she reached to take it.

Her voice still sounded like she was in desperate need of blowing her nose.

And so a box of tissues, taken from a drawer in the nightstand, quickly followed. "Tissue?"

Octavia managed a little huff. (A little one, and very stuffy.)

She grabbed a few of them at once.

Lucifer managed a small smile, and then sat down next to her on the bed.

Close, so their legs were touching.

Octavia blew her nose. Once, then another time. It was loud, and not pretty.

Then she cleared her throat. Sighed. "Oh, that's better."

Lucifer let out a soft huff. "Good," he said, reaching to take the tissues from her. "Are you all right?"

Octavia finally looked at him. Properly.

"Am I ever?"

There was a soft wryness in that that sounded she was at least some manner of 'all right' right now. (Or at the very least, a will to tell him she was.)

Lucifer snorted. "There are degrees, darling," he said.

He put the tissues down on the nightstand and reached for her hand.

Octavia's gaze fell to their hands as she took his, giving it a little squeeze.

"Sorry."

She felt compelled to say that, after... everything, just now.

"There's absolutely nothing to be sorry for," Lucifer said gently. Squeezed her hand, as well. "Though do you have any idea where that came from--?"

"Stress?" Octavia offered. "It just.... washed over me. I couldn't hold it back."

Lucifer nodded. "So... a good cry?" he offered.

[okteiviakom]

"A cry."

Good, bad, was all relative.

[my_own_advocate]

Lucifer huffed softly. "All right then," he said, kissing her temple.

"I think this was just... a lot," Octavia murmured, her eyes closing again.

"I'm sorry," Lucifer murmured.
