A Spot in the Preserve, Sunday Evening

Lucifer and Octavia had their Sunday rituals down to a T. And that-- well, that made Lucifer a bit contrarian, at times. There was nothing wrong with their tradition, healing as it was, but doing the same thing over and over again wasn't always that exciting.

And, all right. Perhaps he was still processing his own healing breakdown a week after the fact.

So he'd promised Octavia a surprise. Shown up with some take out bags and a smile.

She'd probably figured out where they were going well before the first trees came into view. It was a bit chilly, that couldn't be helped, but still: Lucifer thought the ambiance would help. "Almost there."

Octavia's answering smile was gentler and more quiet. And maybe a little amused once she saw his face, but in the fondest way possible.

"Now eat your pizza," she said. "Important things are waiting."

Lucifer let out a huff. "Yes, ma'am," he said. "If you follow suit."

And he reached for his pizza.

As Octavia did for hers, straightening up some from her lean.

"Well, of course," she said. "It's good pizza."

"I'm glad you approve," Lucifer said, with a giddy sense of-- giddiness.

He was adorable like this.

"I mean, I would probably approve of any pizza delivered to the woods." Provided there was no meat involved. "But I especially approve of this one."

"You don't have to humor me that much," Lucifer teased (half-teased) back. "But... good."

"I'm not."

Much.

She bit off another bite. Picked up her drink again, too. "I like this," she added. "Being here with you. Kind of like... when you come over to the Samsara."

"Choosing to be on your turf?" Lucifer teased softly.

"If you want to put it that way."

That was what it was. Octavia didn't have another way to put it, really.

She looked out into the woods. "I guess I should return the favor."

[my_own_advocate]

"You don't like my turf," Lucifer said lightly, "And that's fair."

[okteiviakom]

"And you don't love the dirt and the bugs and the everything here like I do, either."

That wasn't the point.

[my_own_advocate]

"True," Lucifer said, "I just... don't want you to be uncomfortable."

Octavia chewed thoughtfully on her pizza.

(Did that mean she was coming off like she wanted him to be uncomfortable?)

"But still," she decided. "Something to think about."

It wasn't like she'd asked him to do this, was it?

... It was different. Somehow.

"I can't deny it would be nice to take you somewhere in the city some day," Lucifer allowed, after a moment. "That isn't a public park."

"Or a sex shop."

Had to be said!

Octavia gave a tiny shrug, and glanced over again. "As long as it doesn't involve me eating in front of strangers --" She was still waiting to feel able to cross that particular bridge. "-- I'm willing to give it a shot."

"Music?" Lucifer offered. "Would you be comfortable at a concert?"

Another tiny shrug.

"Probably, yeah." Crowds weren't as much of a problem, these days. And she did like music, so there was that. "Is that something you'd like?"

"Yes," Lucifer said. "...Yes, I'd like that very much."

Though he should probably pick something she'd enjoy...

That was kind of also not the point of what they'd been talking about, was it?

But Octavia didn't know what he was thinking about, so she just nodded with one of those crooked little smiles of hers. "Then that's something I'd like to try out, too. It's a deal."

Lucifer leaned in and pressed a kiss against her temple. "A deal," he agreed. "Some other Sunday."

"Another Sunday," Octavia agreed. "But this one's far from over."

[my_own_advocate]

"Mmhm," Lucifer said. He nuzzled her cheek, ever-so-quickly, and then pulled back to finish off his pizza.

It was still enough to make Octavia's heart flutter a little. Even if her outward reaction was more of a little snort.

But yes. Pizza, finishing.

Finally, Lucifer was done, and he sat back a little. Watching her with a smile.

So he got to watch her carefully finishing up her last slice. Nothing wasted.

She glanced over again, once she had. Gave him an amused little look as she was lifting her drink again. "What?"
