A Spot in the Preserve, Sunday Evening

Lucifer and Octavia had their Sunday rituals down to a T. And that-- well, that made Lucifer a bit contrarian, at times. There was nothing wrong with their tradition, healing as it was, but doing the same thing over and over again wasn't always that exciting.

And, all right. Perhaps he was still processing his own healing breakdown a week after the fact.

So he'd promised Octavia a surprise. Shown up with some take out bags and a smile.

She'd probably figured out where they were going well before the first trees came into view. It was a bit chilly, that couldn't be helped, but still: Lucifer thought the ambiance would help. "Almost there."

Octavia snorted.

"Is that so?"

"I'm an angel," Lucifer pointed out, "I came well before birds."

"Foshou," Octavia replied, "sora."

[my_own_advocate]

Lucifer sighed loudly. "You're not funny."

[okteiviakom]

"Yes I am."

[my_own_advocate]

"Not even remotely."

[okteiviakom]

"And yet you're perched in a tree," Octavia replied, unrepentant. "Like a bird."

[my_own_advocate]

"I'm sitting down to give you a more comfortable viewing angle," Lucifer retorted.

"On a branch." A beat. "Like a bird."

[my_own_advocate]

"I'm not a bird."

[okteiviakom]

Octavia finally relented, tipping her head against his shoulder again.

"I like birds," she murmured. "So does Duke."

[my_own_advocate]

Lucifer sighed. "I know," he murmured, and kissed the top of her head.

"And we like you."

He was probably aware.

[my_own_advocate]

"I've noticed," Lucifer teased softly.

[okteiviakom]

Octavia gave a soft snort.

"Anyway," she said, quietly. "I won't call you that if it offends you."

[my_own_advocate]

"It's all right," Lucifer said, pressing his face into her hair. "I'm being a bit ridiculous."

[okteiviakom]

This next huff was even softer, even more quiet.

"Maybe a little."

But it was very him of him to be.

[my_own_advocate]

"So call me what you like," Lucifer said. "And I'll only complain performatively."

Well. Unless it was that name.

Octavia had heard his father and his twin use that name enough times to not really feel like trying to use it herself anymore, fortunately.

"Deal," she murmured, softly.

This was maybe a little bit important to her. Somehow.

Lucifer kissed the top of her head again and smiled.

Took a deep breath, and enjoyed-- yes, the forest air.
