The Cape Rouge, Saturday Afternoon

It had been a glorious week free of drama (bar what Eric predictably brought to the table), and they were capping it off with an even more glorious weekend of nudity, scarves, a light pirate 'abduction', and, well. .

A nap here and there, at least if you were Lucifer; he hadn't exactly been keeping track of where anyone else had been while he was out. Had to keep his strength up.

Which was why he was in the kitchen late into the afternoon, still naked. "First batch of grilled cheese is almost ready!" he called, flipping one sandwich with a practiced motion. Hey, if you were impervious to boiling butter, you made the most of it, no?

Lucifer was still bloody smiling when the kiss broke.

He reached up, sliding his fingers along Duke's hairline, brushing some of it back behind his ear, and took a moment to just look.

Duke's own mouth hadn't stopped smiling, either.

He looked back, studying the shape of Lucifer's jaw and the line of his nose. He reached up to trace the pad of his thumb over the graceful arch of one of Lucifer's brows.

Lucifer let out a gentle huff.

Amusement? Maybe something softer.

Something good squeezed tight in his belly.

"Have I mentioned lately how gorgeous you are?" Had he ever? He got into the habit of not bringing it up casually with Octavia, but both his partners were just absolutely stunning.

"Not in the past few hours," Lucifer said.

He should be smirking, instead of smiling wider, but... well, clearly Duke had short-circuited several of his usual instincts. "But I forgive you."

"I'll try to do better from now on," Duke said. "This face demands worship."

That was maybe not the best word to use, given their recent adventures, but well. These things happen.

Luckily, he was speaking to Lucifer, repression king. “You did try your best a few hours ago.”

Dirty. So dirty.

"I did," Duke agreed. "That face." He ran his hands down Lucifer's shoulders. "That chest." And further down, past Lucifer's waist. "And, uh. That part especially."

"Mhmm." Lucifer wasn't watching his hands, oddly enough. Just the expression on his face, the motion of his eyes.

"Likewise," he said, in a voice that intimated there was more he wanted to say.

Duke's gaze had been following his eyes, but it flicked up fast at that tone, even as his hands (or, one hand and the other's fingers, the cast wouldn't feel nearly as nice as skin down there) stayed down where Lucifer's hips met his thighs.

"You know you can tell me anything, right?"

"I know," Lucifer said.

His mouth managed a different, smaller smile, somehow more intimate than the last.

"I really do know," he said. "And... I realize this past week has mostly been about screwing each other's brains out without pressure again, but..."

He let out a breath, searching for the words.

Duke didn’t interrupt. Didn’t try to guess for Lucifer what he wanted to say. He’d learned how to do that, over the last couple years with Octavia.

Lucifer's fingertips brushed over Duke's cheek again. "You know you're incredible, right?" he said softly. "You dragged me out of my own mess and never wavered."

Duke dropped his gaze for just a second, blushing faintly.

“Just paying it forward. I know how hard it was for me to wrap my head around the whole thing.”

"I'd hope it's more than that," Lucifer said. His fingers slid under Duke's chin and nudged it up.

"Yeah," Duke agreed, letting Lucifer guide his gaze back up. "I just. Couldn't let you go."

"You may be the first," Lucifer said quietly. He leaned in and brushed another kiss against Duke's mouth.

He knew he had a habit of leaving abruptly, and people he cared about had never been fond of it, but...

“The rest of them don’t know what they’re missing.”

"Flirt," Lucifer said, voice soft.

So were his eyes, actually.

"Shamelessly," Duke agreed. And leaned in for another kiss.

He could have however many kisses he wanted. Lucifer's fingers slipped into his hair with care.

"I already told Octavia this," he murmured, "But I feel very lucky."

"You're not the only one," Duke said. "I'm just glad something in our lives finally went right."

Lucifer laughed softly. "Suppose we were due one good thing," he said. Which he'd, of course, attempted to sabotage repeatedly over the past few months.

Well. It took practice to recognize it properly.

"Two," Duke said. "Each other. And Tavi."

"Well," Lucifer said, brushing his fingers through Duke's hair. "Perhaps I like thinking of us all as one thing."
