Lucifer's Mansion, Sunday Night

Date Nights had a certain structure to them, born mainly of habit. But that didn't mean they needed to keep to it.

In fact, the second Lucifer had received Octavia's text, he'd mentally overhauled all of the night's plans and picked up a few munchies and sodas. Dug up some of his excess pillows, and littered them along the living room.

He had-- multiple stashes. After a moment's thought as to what type of... relaxation would be best for the night, Lucifer went digging around for a particular one. Waiting, as he was doing so, for Octavia.

Octavia had her own bag of snacks hauled over her shoulder when she eventually turned up. She was feeling some sort of mood she didn't seem to be able to shake, so... Might as well try and bury it.

"Lucifer?" she called, as she closed the door behind herself.

"In the living room," Lucifer called. "Just lighting some candles!"

Of course he wanted to make it a mood.

"That's a fire hazard," Octavia drawled as she made her way to the sound of his voice.

She knew that had absolutely never stopped him before, yes.

"It'll be fine," Lucifer sighed. "Honestly. I take precautions."

But he was, in fact, lighting what appeared to be the 7th of nine candles in various sizes and shapes.

At least two of them were vaguely dirty.

"To cause the biggest fire hazard you can?" Octavia rasped, eyeing one of the vaguely dirty ones, before setting her bag down on the couch.

"Are you planning to go running about knocking them over, darling?" Lucifer asked. "Because that's fine, but I would've liked another text up front about it."

"I didn't know there'd be candles."

She dug into the bag for some chips, a packet of Oreos, and some... chocolate-covered fruit things that had caught her interest.

"Seemed like the proper mood for a night in on a high," Lucifer said.

He gestured towards the bags of chips and garlic bread things already on the table. "Add them to the pile."

Octavia wasn't going to pretend to be surprised he'd already brought things. The point of her also having brought some stuff of her own was --

Well, stuff of her own. Some semblance of control, maybe? She hadn't and wouldn't think too hard about it. That wasn't what tonight was about.

She just added her things to the pile as instructed. "We won't run out."

"Indeed," Lucifer said. He looked at her section of the pile, and then at her face, and thought why?, and asked-- "Would you like me to extinguish the candles again?"

"You only just lit them," Octavia pointed out.

Mildly, but that was just the register she was currently a little stuck in. (Which was part of the reason for the text, too.)

"I did," Lucifer agreed, as he casually reached into his breast pocket for a bag of-- well, cigarettes, of a kind. "But they're just as easily doused."

He held the bag out for her.

"I know how candles work, darling."

She reached for the bag.

"All right," Lucifer said easily. "Then light us up."

Octavia fished one of the cigarettes out of the bag.

Then, she reached for one of the candles. Might as well use the fire that was already there.

"So is there a particular reason you wanted to do this?" Lucifer asked, as he sank into a seat. "Or shall we not talk about it at all?"

"Does everything need a reason?" Octavia rasped. It was not her best cop-out, but then it was really more of a distracted afterthought to her lighting the joint, anyway.

And then getting that first puff, without wasting too much time.

Exhaled, with an, "I felt like it."

No, but knowing her, there likely was one.

Lucifer didn't say that, however. "No, it does not," he said instead, which wasn't a lie, and reached a hand out for the cigarette. "Especially since I always enjoy a good toke with you."

Octavia let him take it, before finding a good pillow next to him and slumping down onto it.

"And that makes you easy to text."

"Happy to be textable," Lucifer said, grinning at her. He leaned into her a bit as he lifted the cigarette to his mouth and took a good, long drag.

And then a second one, because otherwise he wouldn't be getting high quite at the same rate she was.

"Don't get me wrong," Octavia rasped, "Duke's textable too."

Even for this.

Just maybe not today.

"But we already had plans."

"I wasn't going to imply that he wasn't," Lucifer assured her, took one more drag for good luck, and offered it back to her.

"I didn't think you were." She took the cigarette, and gave a tiny shrug. "I just wanted it out there."

"Fair enough," Lucifer said easily. "And you were early enough. I hadn't finished the shopping for dinner yet."

Another drag. Slow. Almost... appreciative.

"What were you going to make?"
