The inhabitants of the Cape Rouge had a way of dealing with traumatic events, and that way was getting very, very far away from where the traumatic events had happened for a while. But it was winter, and cold, and something about recent events hadn't left Lucifer particularly predisposed to the Bahamas.

No, they needed a place that was equal parts Duke and Octavia, to remind them all of who Octavia and Duke were, specifically.

And so Lucifer had found this island, put down a not inconsiderable amount of money, and told his partners they were leaving.

He had not told them where. But, as the portal opened onto the warm, green island, he didn't think they'd disapprove. "And here we are."

Octavia almost said 'good Devil', but settled instead on --

"Very nice of you."

"I feel very enabled," Duke said happily.

Fully expecting to get splashed for it.

Well, Octavia hadn't said 'good Devil', so Lucifer wasn't so red or flustered that he couldn't, in fact, splash Duke.

Splash!

"Well," Octavia rasped, looking over at the sound of the splash, "that didn't take long, did it?"

"I for one am very surprised at this turn of events," Duke noted idly.

"It's his own fault," Lucifer announced.

"You would think that."

[betterthanaplan]

"In his defense, I was being a brat," Duke offered.

[my_own_advocate]

"See, even he agrees," Lucifer said, "And doesn't deserve your instantaneous loyalty."

[okteiviakom]

Octavia gave her legs a stronger kick or two, sending water skywards rather than towards them.

"I thought we were here to have a nice time."

[betterthanaplan]

"Yeah, hang on. Are you not pro instantaneous Duke loyalty?" Duke asked, looking at Lucifer with a face full of faux betrayal.

"In general, yes. But not when you're sassing me," Lucifer said primly.

Octavia gave a tiny snort.

"He has a low tolerance for sass. Now, all of a sudden."

[betterthanaplan]

"He's always been better at dishing it than taking it," Duke noted. He kicked gently, floating on his back towards Lucifer and reaching his hand out towards him. "Lie back, babe. Enjoy a float with us."

Lucifer sighed. "I can absolutely take it," he huffed, "As you're well aware." Dirty!

But he gave in, letting his feet drift up to the surface of the water, and reached for Duke's hand.

"That's why I said now," Octavia drawled. Because she could.

"Okay, fine, I'm wrong," Duke said easily. "Hush and enjoy the sun and surf."

"Who said I wasn't?" Lucifer sighed, squinting up towards the sun.

"Maybe everyone's a little bit wrong."

That worked on several levels.

Including the one that explained why they were here.

"Sha, briyon gona," Duke said. He squeezed Lucifer's hand and reached for hers, closing his eyes and basking in the sun.

Lucifer exhaled a loud breath, letting some of the stress slip out of his body.

"This is better."

Octavia gave Duke's hand a little squeeze.

"Yeah."

Yeah, it was.

"This," Duke said, "is perfect." He looked over at Lucifer. "Briyon skaifaya."

Lucifer let out a soft huff. "Thank you," he said, mouth curving, "I try my best."

He glanced at Duke. "I just want us all to just-- be, for a while."

"Looks like you picked the right place for it," Octavia offered.
