It was a nice, bright morning in Los Angeles, just a few days before Lucifer's self-imposed ultimatum about leaving ended. He remained on a quest to apologize for his therapist-inflicted overthinking and subsequent attempts to break up with Duke and Octavia, and so, today...

...Today it was time to spoil Octavia with a visit to the Aquarium of the Pacific.

He hummed brightly to himself as he paid for their tickets, then slid past the nice cashier and into the aquarium properly.

"I can't believe this," Lucifer snapped, pacing towards the bar on his way in. "Now I actually have to plan His retirement!"

"I mean," Duke said. "But like. Do you, though? You have kind of a lot of siblings."

Some of them even seemed vaguely functional!

"They didn't seem very helpful to me," Octavia rasped.

Heading for the couch. She wanted to sit down.

“They’ll all get caught up trying to do whatever Father wants,” Lucifer said. “And while they’re not paying attention, He slips and turns Reno into an ice rink or something.”

Duke could see the hope of getting home disappear beyond the horizon.

“But what does God-retirement even look like? It’s not like you can just put him in a home.”

"Couldn't I?" Lucifer asked, spinning around, whiskey in hand, to look at Duke. "You've seen Him. I bet He'd adore Florida."

Octavia flopped onto the couch, then busied herself with untying her laces so she could kick her boots off and pull her feet onto the couch, too.

She didn't know anything about retirement homes, anyway.

"Uh huh. And what's to stop him from turning Florida into an ice rink?"

"Giving up His God powers to someone else, obviously," Lucifer said.

He had made the executive decision not to think too hard about who, regardless of his siblings' chaos earlier that day.

"To who?" Octavia rasped from the couch.

Duke bounced his fingers at her.

"And what's to stop someone else from planning said retirement once they've been handed over? You don't actually have to carry your whole family, Luce."

"Unfortunately, in this case, I may have to," Lucifer said irritably. "Lest the sky actually fall down on our heads."

He took a big gulp of his drink.

He had no answer to the other question. (Besides a dawning feeling of dread and inevitability he didn't want to voice, because that might make it real.)

Octavia took note of that lack of an answer, but she didn't press.

She gave up on perching on the couch, and just slid down until she could stretch out on it, instead.

It was hard to argue with stakes on a celestial scale, much that Duke often wished he could. So he just grumbled under his breath about obnoxious fathers and went to join Octavia on the couch.

"We're going to be stuck here forever."

"Absolutely not," Lucifer said, reaching for the whiskey again. "I refuse to let my Father's mess stop me from returning to Fandom with both of you."

He paused.

"Hm, that makes me think, actually..."

Octavia pulled her legs up to make room for Duke, but only so that she'd then be able to flop them across his lap as soon as he sat down.

"About?" she rasped.

As was only right and fair. Duke rested his hands on her shins, gently rubbing up and down them.

"Where to dump his dear old dad, hopefully."

"I'm going to get Him a girlfriend," Lucifer announced, "He's been single for millions of years, clearly He needs someone to get settled with."

Octavia'shead turned, and her brow furrowed.

"... What?"

She sounded like she was judging that idea. Sorry.

"It'd be perfect!" Lucifer argued. "He can annoy someone else for the rest of His life, happily ever after on a porch in Florida somewhere."

"I hate to harp on the whole 'God' thing, but -- I mean, is he even going to be into a human woman?"

"I'm an angel," Lucifer pointed out, "And yet I'm obviously into humans."

He took another thoughtful sip of his drink. "I should get Him an account on Tinder..."

"Yeah, but." Duke shook his head, slightly surprised that he had to say this. (And then surprised at himself for being surprised.) "You're extraordinary."
