Los Angeles, Tuesday

It was a nice, bright morning in Los Angeles, just a few days before Lucifer's self-imposed ultimatum about leaving ended. He remained on a quest to apologize for his therapist-inflicted overthinking and subsequent attempts to break up with Duke and Octavia, and so, today...

...Today it was time to spoil Octavia with a visit to the Aquarium of the Pacific.

He hummed brightly to himself as he paid for their tickets, then slid past the nice cashier and into the aquarium properly.

"The shark exhibit shouldn't be too far," Lucifer announced. "Nor the sea otters. Any preference for where we go first?"

Dad's back, Amenadiel had said.

He wanted to have a cookout, Amenadiel had said.

He'd invited the entire family, Amenadiel had said.

And lo and behold, Lucifer's brother hadn't lied. Unfortunately. Lucifer arrived at the field with Amenadiel and his ~~shield~~ humans in tow, and found himself having to just stand there and stare for a while. His siblings were everywhere, dressed in whatever period's clothing they preferred. Wings in shades of grey, brown and black were openly out everywhere, with apparently no fear for mortal eyes.

And Dad was in the center of it all, tending the grill underneath the large 'Happy Retirement' sign.

He had a headache. Lucifer, that is.

"Oh, bloody Hell."

"I can't believe this," Lucifer snapped, pacing towards the bar on his way in. "Now I actually have to plan His retirement!"

TBC tomorrow.

"Sharks first," Octavia said, without taking too long to think it over. "Been a while since I've seen any."

Also maybe she was saving the otters for later like the treat they were.

"Shark Lagoon it is," Lucifer said, holding out his arm in the proper direction. "Apparently they let you pet the less maul-y sharks."

“So many wings,” Duke murmured, looking around.

Holy shit, Lucifer’s siblings were all so pretty and yet so terrifying. . . .

Octavia's eyebrows went up. A lot - by her standards. "... They let you pet sharks here?"

Way to not lead with the good parts, Lucifer!

"Some of the smaller ones," Lucifer said, grinning. "They have these small touch pools where you can lean over and touch anything that swims near."

He gestured at the section reading 'Shark Lagoon' up ahead. "They're supposed to be very good."

Or, well. Popular with children. But he wasn't saying that bit out loud.

"Yeah," Octavia muttered back to him, warily.

That was a lot of angels in one place, and the wings were just hammering that home in an uncomfortable way.

"I can't believe I didn't even get an invitation," Lucifer said irritably.

He was not particularly impressed one way or another, no.

Amenadiel shot him a glance. "Not even Gabriel's e-vite?"

Lucifer sighed. "She emails too much," he said, sliding his hands into his pockets, "I have the system set up to send them straight to spam."

As if Octavia cared if other adults didn't recognize a good thing for what it was.

"What are we waiting for?"

She was already going.

Duke snorted, choking faintly. “What, you guys don’t have a family group text?”

Lucifer laughed, striding after her. "Nothing at all," he said. "Full steam ahead."

Not that she needed him to say so.

There was a concrete barrier set up to contain the water of the touch pool, but it only reached hip-height even for the children. It was full of rays and smaller sharks, swimming circles, sometimes coming up to the side to welcome the questing hands of the visitors.

Octavia had understood some of those words.

She was still mostly eyeing the 'Happy Retirement' sign.

And as soon as they got there, Lucifer might not as well even have been there. (Sorry, Luce.) Octavia crouched by the barrier, and her attention was immediately fixed to a couple of bonnethead sharks swimming by.

"Oh, they're like babies," she murmured.

"But still quite sharky," Lucifer said, hands in his pockets as he ambled up behind her.

"Please," Lucifer snorted. "Half of them still don't know what texting is, and Gabriel would be obno--"

"Higuysheardyoutalkingaboutmelongtimenoseegladyoucouldmakeit." An angel in a flowing blue robe pushed her way between them, the sun shining off of her necklace of metal feathers. "Archangels, assemble!" she enthused, in roughly the same tone of voice, raised her fists, then slammed one fist into her palm. She slowed down only about a tenth of a second more per word as she continued, "Azrael says hi, wishes she could be here, but you know, no rest for the Angel of Death..."

"Hey, Gabriel," Lucifer and Amenadiel sighed in perfect unison.

". . . Hi," Duke said, much more bemused than the two angels. "I'm Duke." He jerked a thumb at Octavia. "Octavia."

Did she already know that? How much did the angels know about Lucifer's partners? Or life on Earth generally?

"Lucifer's partners," Octavia clarified in a rasp, just in case.

While her wariness zeroed in on Gabriel, now.

"Oh, right, you actually brought your new humans here, holy crap," Gabriel said, grinning. She looked at Amenadiel speculatively. "I heard you've been busy too! Why don't we sit down and have a whole big 'filling me in on all the baby mama, poly disaster, human drama' sesh?"

Amenadiel snorted. "As if I would tell anything to the Angel of Gossip," he said.

Gabriel put her hands on her hips. "It's Angel of Messages," she said. "But whatever, I got plenty of hot goss without you."
