The Fin & Tonic, Sunday Night

Out here, the days were spent in the sun, enjoying the beach, drinks, a good swim or five; and then there were the evening hours, after they'd had dinner at the diner on the porch, where Lucifer searched valiantly for other ways to relax.

No, not just that. Perverts.

Tonight, he'd found himself on the Fin & Tonic's quite luxurious sofa, with a large bucket of popcorn. He paged through Netflix, searching for just. The right. Terrible action movie. Having found it, he leaned forward to grab a refill from his massive pitcher of margarita.

Should he call over Octavia or Duke? Ah, they'd find him if they wanted to join him, surely.

Octavia wandered over eventually, from where she'd been doing... her own thing. She'd been trying to find more of those on this particular trip, expanding from her usual work around the marina.

"Anything good?"

"What are your feelings on early 90s action schlock?"

That said it all, didn't it?

It said almost nothing.

"On what?"

See?

Although Octavia was crawling onto the couch anyway, so maybe it didn't matter that much.

"Terribly incredible action movies from the 90s," Lucifer... sort of clarified? He was scooting over to her, that was more important.

That still didn't clarify much.

But they met somewhere in the middle, where Octavia curled up against his side. "Okay," she said, sounding unconvinced.

"You'll see," Lucifer told her, sliding an arm around her as he hit play on the remote. "Had a good day, darling?"

"It was fine," Octavia replied, verbose as ever. But her tone was light? By Octavia standards. "You?"

"Little to complain about," Lucifer said, and pressed a firm kiss against her cheek. "Hard to argue with sun and sand."

Octavia settled her head against his shoulder, and gave a faint little hum.

"I could argue with anything."

[my_own_advocate]

Lucifer tilted his head. "... I can't argue with that," he said. "Certainly not this trip."

"Good," Octavia replied, "then you've got the right idea."

As far as jokes went, it was a pretty weak one.

Lucifer eyed the TV, where the movie had just introduced its completely generic white male protagonist.

"How are you holding up," he said, after a moment, "After... New Year's Eve."

Was the deep sigh, followed by Octavia trying to press herself a little closer to his side, enough of an answer?

Because it was the immediate one.

"Oh, darling," Lucifer said softly. He pulled her in close, pressing another kiss to her temple.

"Not ideal," Octavia muttered, trying to cover his hand with hers, wherever on her it had landed.

It pressed against her hip, though the presence of her hand made Lucifer shift it up onto her thigh. "I'm sorry."

"I don't know if I expected anything else," Octavia admitted. Very, very quietly. "This is just... how things works with us, right now."

Lucifer sighed. "There must be some progress," he said. "Somehow."

[okteiviakom]

"If there is, it's... inside him," Octavia muttered. "And we'll see it when it's ready."

[my_own_advocate]

"Well, it's not entirely him, is it?" Lucifer tried. Gently.

[okteiviakom]

Long silence.

And then, "No."

[my_own_advocate]

"So what's going on in your head?"

[okteiviakom]

"About which part?"

[my_own_advocate]

"Evolving thoughts about what's happening?" Lucifer inquired. "

[okteiviakom]

"What do you think the likelihood is that anything in me is evolving?" Octavia muttered.

It was helpless grousing, if anything.
