The Cape Rouge, Saturday Afternoon

It had been a glorious week free of drama (bar what Eric predictably brought to the table), and they were capping it off with an even more glorious weekend of nudity, scarves, a light pirate 'abduction', and, well. .

A nap here and there, at least if you were Lucifer; he hadn't exactly been keeping track of where anyone else had been while he was out. Had to keep his strength up.

Which was why he was in the kitchen late into the afternoon, still naked. "First batch of grilled cheese is almost ready!" he called, flipping one sandwich with a practiced motion. Hey, if you were impervious to boiling butter, you made the most of it, no?

"Uh huh," Octavia rasped, but at least skipped the eye roll. Instead, she was moving closer, to peer at the culinary delights he was preparing.

Yes, grilled cheese counted.

Lucifer huffed in amusement. "Hungry?"

"Not really," Octavia admitted, absently touching the small of his back with one hand. The sleeves were a little long on her, and the edge of the fabric swished against his skin, too. "They had that thing up at the school."

It was a very nice robe. Lucifer had picked it out especially because of how it felt. He grinned at her.

"Ah, poaching food from the newbies," he teased.

"I wouldn't touch it if they didn't lay out enough of it to feed the whole town," Octavia replied.

Lightly.

Lucifer sighed. "Yes, I know," he said. "You're adorably you like that."

"Someone who doesn't joke about food?" Octavia rasped, winding her arm around his waist, leaning against his side a little, but without getting in his way. (Or without putting herself in danger of any butter splatter.) "Yeah."

"So solemn," Lucifer teased. He flipped the sandwich one more time. "So how was the picnic this time?"

"Same as it always is, as far as I remember," Octavia replied, shrugging on one side. "Lot of people, lot of food."

"Did you enjoy it?" Lucifer flipped the sandwich onto a plate.

[okteiviakom]

Another shrug.

It wasn't really her thing probably, possible threads pending.

"Mm, well, I'm glad you've returned," Lucifer said, "Hopefully to stay for the next, oh, at least sixteen hours..."

Octavia managed a soft snort, looking up at his face again. "Oh, we're counting now?"

"Well, I would never imprison you on this boat forever, darling," Lucifer said, holding up the plate for her. (Yes, she'd said she wasn't hungry. He was trying anyway.) "But for a bit..."

Octavia pulled back, to accept the plate. She hadn't had that much to eat at the picnic, anyway. "You're not imprisoning me anywhere for any length of time."

She managed the same lightness of tone she had about the food thing, but, well.

She wasn't Duke.

Lucifer had the grace to look faintly embarrassed. "I merely meant convincing you to stay on this boat," he said, "I assure you."

"I know," Octavia said, turning to take her plate to the table. "Just use those words instead."

[my_own_advocate]

"Next time," Lucifer promised, trailing after her. "I like that robe on you. You should keep it."

Octavia set the plate down first, then took a seat. Left enough room next to her free.

"But then it wouldn't be yours anymore."

[my_own_advocate]

"Ah," Lucifer said, sitting down there for the second time that afternoon. "So that's the draw, is it."

[okteiviakom]

"That's the draw," Octavia replied, finally looking up at him again. "If it's not yours, it's just a robe that's too big on me."

"Well, I do like you in my robe," Lucifer said, mouth curving. "I'll have to make sure I wear it enough."

"Good," Octavia replied, simply.

And leaned up to press a kiss to his cheek.

Lucifer let out a soft breath.

"I have this... terribly dumb mental image," he said.

Octavia pressed another idle kiss against his shoulder, looking up.

"Of what?"
