Maze

Lucifer had called her here. Maze wasn't really nervous; it wasn't like he had ever held grudges against her for long. But she was curious.

And they had some stuff to talk about.

"Hey," she said, lifting her chin at Lucifer as she approached the bar.

Lucifer

"Mazikeen," Lucifer greeted, with a little nod. He reached behind the bar for a bottle of scotch. "Thank you for coming."

He poured himself a glass. Then a second one, for her.

"I wanted to thank you for helping me with Dan earlier."

Maze

Was that it?

"Yeah, no problem," Maze said, picking up her glass with a snort. "It was funny as hell. And kind of adorable, in a Dan sort of way."

Lucifer

Lucifer reached out and turned the bottle around by the neck. "I won't be here for much longer," he said. "The... situation... as it is is beginning to resolve itself, and I have decided to go back to Fandom on a... semi-permanent basis."

A beat.

"I'm hoping to eventually convince them to move somewhere less backward and marshy, obviously."

Maze

Huh.

"Really?" Maze said, frowning. "Uh, what about Decker?"

Lucifer

"The Detective and I... agreed that it wouldn't be fair for me to leave my current relationship, under the circumstances."

What with how he still didn't actually feel like he deserved any relationship at all. How trying to choose between any of them felt like an impossibility, and so he'd had to make the choice intellectually.

He looked up at her. "But that's not what I wanted to talk about," he said. "We haven't really cleared the air, have we?"

Maze

Maze lifted an eyebrow. "You want to clear the air?" she said incredulously.

Since when did Lucifer think about stuff like that at all? You know, like... other people's feelings?

Lucifer

"Linda said it might be helpful to make a... clean break, if I plan to move away for good," Lucifer explained. "If I don't clean things up, so to speak, they might continue to haunt me, and as these past few weeks have shown, when I allow the past to haunt me, it causes severe damage to my relationship."

He sipped his drink. "So, Lilith," he said. "I did keep her from you. It was a promise to her, and I wanted to keep my word. But it wasn't fair to you."

Maze

"Yeah, no shit," Maze said.

This was still weird. So weird. She cleared her throat.

"Look, I don't need more of an explanation," she said. She had a soul now. Grown it herself, God had told her. She was good.

... Okay, she was good, but that didn't mean she was just going to let Lucifer walk away without bleeding for this a little bit.

"I just need..." she began, and tilted her head, and said, "...Mom's ring."

Lucifer

Lucifer blinked and looked down at the black stone on his right hand. "...Well, I suppose that's fair," he said, reaching to pull it off his finger.

He held it out for her.

"There you go," he said. "Lilith's ring, for Lilith's daughter."

Maze

"Ugh," Maze said. Lilith had never been much of a mom. "Don't call me that. It sounds weird."

But she took the ring and held it up.

"So that's really her immortality in there, huh."

Lucifer

"Freely given away," Lucifer said, nodding. "Of course, for creatures such as you and I, it's purely ornamental."

Maze

"I know," Maze said. She slipped it into her pocket. "Sentimental value, or something."

She wasn't sure 'sentimental' described anything she felt about her mom.

She slid away from the bar, and then... stopped, just for a moment. "Eve's back in town, by the way," she said. "Thought you'd like to know."

Lucifer

"Is she?" Lucifer asked. "What's she..."

Oh, Maze was already gone. Oh well.

He reached for the bottle and poured himself another glass.
