Lucifer's Mansion, Sunday Afternoon

It was another one of Those Weekends, and Lucifer, for his part, had absolutely no interest and going out to see Steamboat Rougey or whatever the hell had probably become of Duke. This thing the island was doing was entirely too PG for him, thank you.

He wandered through the living room in his silk bathrobe, flicking his lighter multiple times. It sparked, but somehow failed to produce a single working flame.

"Bugger," he snarled irritably. "Right. More scotch it is, then."

Duke was thankfully unaffected this time. Unlike the porgs, who were having a grand porg wedding on his boat right now. Marrying Polly Lobster to a girl porg, identifiable by her big floppy white hair bow.

It was all entirely too heteronormative for Duke, so he grabbed a few bottles at random from his liquor cabinet and fled.

And was now pounding knocking on Lucifer's front door.

"Now what fresh hell--" Lucifer, cigarette still dangling from his mouth and a massive glass of scotch in his hand, stomped over to the door and yanked it over. "--Is it this time--"

In combination with the blue robe, it was definitely a vintage Lucifer Look.

And Duke was taking a moment to very visibly appreciate that look.

"Octavia's a mermaid," he said. He lifted a bottle of vermouth. "Drink?"

"I know, and yes," Lucifer said, very vehemently, and all but dragged Duke into the house.

Duke happily let himself be all-but-dragged. "So this is how it feels, huh? To be one of the normal ones on these weekends."

"Yes," Lucifer sighed, slamming the door shut behind them and stalking back into the living room like the perpetually-frustrated melodramatic dandy he was at heart. "It's extremely annoying. And most times, at least the rest of the island isn't some kind of Saturday morning horror show."

"The porgs have been going nuts." Duke cracked open his bottle, looking around for some glassware. "Got freaking meta for West Side Story on my boat right now."

"And so you came here for refuge," Lucifer agreed, waving at the ornate cabinet not far from where Duke was standing. "Good choice. You wouldn't happen to have a working lighter on you, would you?"

Duke dug into his pockets. "I do not," he said apologetically. "So . . . smoking's a no-no but booze is fine?"

"So far, but don't tempt this island," Lucifer muttered.

An idea struck him. He paced into the kitchen.

Duke raised an eyebrow and tagged along after him.

Lucifer stalked up to the stove and turned the gas on. Flames spewed forth after a moment, and he leaned in, cigarette in his mouth again, until the tip started smoking.

He leaned back and took a long drag, then exhaled. And leaned back against the counter. "Ah," he said. "Much better."

“Anyone else trying that, I’d call it a disastrous idea.”

"It's not like I can set myself on fire," Lucifer said, idly twisting the knobs so the gas went back out.

He opened his eyes back up and looked at Duke. "Let's stay here for the rest of the weekend."

“Exactly,” Duke said. “And sure. So long as we don’t get invaded by anything singing.”

"Do you want me to barricade the door?" Lucifer asked. "Because we can do that."

Duke gave the door — or the direction of it anyway — a suspicious side-eye. “Maybe later. Right now . . . you got any pot?”

Lucifer snorted. "Of course I do," he said, "Have we met?"

He took another drag of his cigarette, then walked across the room to another cabinet.

“Seemed more polite to ask than demand,” Duke said, getting more cheerful with each moment of blessed normalcy. “If we’re going to have to deal with the island throwing singing mermaids at us, we might as well be stoned.”

"Agreed," Lucifer said, opening up the cabinet and fishing out a bag with a few pre-rolled joints inside.

He tossed it to Duke. "Do the honours, will you?"

“What, on the stove?” Duke eyed it suspiciously. “You know I am flammable, right?”

"You've got hands, don't you?" Lucifer asked, already pacing back towards him in case he decided to make a big thing about it.

“Which are also flammable, yes,” Duke said, pulling a joint out of the bag. “Gimme your cigarette.”

Lucifer sighed, but he held the cigarette out obligingly.

Duke put the joint in his mouth and used the lit end of the cigarette to light up the joint. He passed the cigarette back and took a long drag on the joint.

"Thanks."
