Lucifer's Mansion, Sunday Afternoon

It was another one of Those Weekends, and Lucifer, for his part, had absolutely no interest and going out to see Steamboat Rougey or whatever the hell had probably become of Duke. This thing the island was doing was entirely too PG for him, thank you.

He wandered through the living room in his silk bathrobe, flicking his lighter multiple times. It sparked, but somehow failed to produce a single working flame.

"Bugger," he snarled irritably. "Right. More scotch it is, then."

That meant he'd miss the faint coloring of Duke's cheek, though he might be able to feel the slight warming when he kissed him.

"I believe the exact words you used were 'absolutely beautiful'."

Lucifer chuckled softly, bringing one hand up to brush some of Duke's hair out of his face. "And I stand by that."

A month or so ago, he might have made a crack about Duke's ego to go along with that. But frankly, it had become obvious Duke's ego could actually use a bit of inflating in some areas.

"We make a very pretty pair," Duke decided, sipping his drink. "Especially in these ridiculous blanket things."

"Comfortable and pretty," Lucifer said, settling back against him again. "Best of both worlds, frankly."

"It is nice being able to use my hands while keeping my arms covered," Duke admitted.

"And there you were ready to mock the snuggie," Lucifer sighed.

"I'm mostly just astonished that you have the snuggies," Duke said. "You know there are those who find these to be very low-brow, don't you?"

Lucifer rolled his eyes. "Well, they're wrong," he said. "I'm not about to jump off a bridge just because someone told me it was high-brow, either."

"Jumping off bridges can be fun," Duke said. "Depending on the bridge. Just wouldn't have figured these were your style, is all. It's nice to see a, uh. Cozier side of the Devil."

"I'll try most things once," Lucifer said, idly reaching for his glass again. "You never know if you'll enjoy it. Like-- prolonged boat vacations."

"And, uh. Wearing plaid?" Duke teased.

[my_own_advocate]

"No," Lucifer said firmly. "You are not turning me into a lumberjack."

"Yes, because that's what happens when you wear plaid. You're struck immediately with an overwhelming urge to chop down trees."

[my_own_advocate]

Lucifer rolled his eyes. "I mean aesthetically," he said.

[betterthanaplan]

"Aesthetically, it can mean anything you want it to. Especially if you don't button it all the way up like a farmer."

[my_own_advocate]

"Not buttoning up your plaid doesn't make it any less ugly," Lucifer said. "I'm terribly sorry about whoever lied to you about that."

The irritating thing about Duke was that he was still attractive even when he was being utterly wrong on purpose.

"There are definitely ugly plaids," Duke said. "But not every plaid is ugly."

"Spoken like a man who owns a lot of plaid," Lucifer noted.

“I do,” Duke agreed. “And I look great in it.”

"I think the words you're missing in that sentence are 'spite' and 'of'."

Duke laughed.

"Just for that, I'm going to get myself a plaid snuggie."

[my_own_advocate]

"Why do you insist on being so bloody vexing," Lucifer sighed, and kissed him, since he was being both annoying and attractive again.

Duke happily kissed back.

"Because it makes you try to shut me up?"

[my_own_advocate]

"I'm not encouraging your bizarre taste in fashion."

[betterthanaplan]

"But it gives you all the more reason to try to get me naked," Duke teased.
