It was a nice, bright morning in Los Angeles, just a few days before Lucifer's self-imposed ultimatum about leaving ended. He remained on a quest to apologize for his therapist-inflicted overthinking and subsequent attempts to break up with Duke and Octavia, and so, today...

...Today it was time to spoil Octavia with a visit to the Aquarium of the Pacific.

He hummed brightly to himself as he paid for their tickets, then slid past the nice cashier and into the aquarium properly.

Octavia snorted. Then, purely on a whim, caught his hand in hers.

Then led on, pulling him along.

Lucifer chuckled softly, and let her pull him with her into the building. It was pleasantly cool inside, and the large glass windows that met them on their way in showed a glimpse of the ocean life beyond.

Once they rounded the corner, of course, they'd find themselves face to face with the tell-tale tape of a crime scene.

But that was still several steps away.

And those several steps were made a little longer by Octavia's curiosity about the windows.

But eventually they did round that corner, and, well.

"... This can't be good."

Lucifer frowned. "Right, that's-- miss Lopez?" he said, squinting. He looked at Octavia. "Mind if I go on ahead, ensure you don't walk into some kind of slaughter?"

Because he was absolutely going to go see the sharks with Octavia if he could at all make it happen.

"Sure," Octavia said slowly.

Oh good, there was that wary feeling again.

Lucifer nodded. He squeezed her hand gently. "Be back in a flash," he said, and barged valiantly on ahead.

He returned a few minutes later.

"Shark mauled a human," he said, "But after she died? They're about to get the body bag."

"Right," Octavia said.

What did you... really say to that?

"We can go back to the smaller sharks until they're done?" Lucifer suggested.

"I think I'd prefer that," Octavia replied. Quiet, kind of mild.

"All right," Lucifer said, reaching for her hand. "No more bodies. Just sharks."

Suppose bodies and sharks went together, in certain ways.

But Octavia took his hand.

"We could even take a detour past the otters," Lucifer said, tugging her back out the door, towards the shark pools.

"That sounds... nice."

Despite her slightly hesitant tone, there, what didn't otters make better, honestly?

Lucifer smiled at her a bit. "I feel like you deserve otters right now," he said. "And I doubt there's any... problems... in that direction."

"There better not be," Octavia replied, and managed something closer to a dry drawl.

See, she was getting back into the swing of things.

Lucifer chuckled. "Promise to let you punch anyone who makes trouble for us," he said, tugging her in the direction of the otter exhibit.

Octavia let him pull her along, this time.

"Good."

Not that she needed his permission.

Lucifer tugged her along, smile growing brighter as they approached the exhibit. "So where do you want to go first?" he said. "The above water part, or do you want to watch them swim first?"

Octavia took a beat to think, though it was less thinking and more going with her gut, regardless.

"Swimming."

"As you wish," Lucifer said, and smiled even wider, tugging her down towards the stairs.

Octavia followed along, finally beginning to settled back into her curiosity, looking around as they moved.

And, you know, she didn't rush towards the exhibit, but she definitely didn't dally.

They found themselves in a blue-lit fake cave, a large glass wall separating them from-- quite a number of adorable fuzzy things, rolling about and diving into the water.

"Well, look at that," Lucifer said. "Entirely untraumatic."

"Entirely," Octavia agreed, but she already sounded a little distracted. Because, well.

Otters.

Lucifer chuckled. "I'll just sit here, then," he said, and picked a spot on a bench to Octavia-watch.

It was similar to how Octavia had been with the sharks: she watched the animals keenly, like she didn't want to miss anything. Occasionally smiled to herself, faint and soft, when something called for it.

And when she turned, with the intention of commenting on something, she happened to instead catch sight of a sign. It said Adopt An Animal.

And so she pointed at it: "Did you see that?"
