Baltimore Boating Center, Wednesday Afternoon

Duke wanted a small boat to add to their growing fleet. Lucifer-- wanted to take Duke out on a date, which he hadn't done in a little while, and the trip to and from would be scenic. Afterwards, they could grab some food at a nearby restaurant and make a night of it. Possibly ending at the mansion.

It all seemed to make sense.

And so he pulled into the marina well into the afternoon, the wind in his hair and a smile on his face. "Here we are," he said, bringing the car to a stop. "Home to many a baby boat."

He was just saying it to annoy Duke, at this point.

Duke let out a low chuckle.

"So . . . you approve, then?"

"Well, it's not what I would choose," Lucifer said, leaning in a bit. "But it's very you in a way that isn't unpleasant."

[betterthanaplan]

"No, you'd choose some fiberglass yacht lined in gold, with a built in wave-pool," Duke said. And leaned in to kiss Lucifer. "We've all got our own strengths."

"And mine is taste," Lucifer teased, kissing him again.

Just a gentle, fond thing. There was a man upstairs, after all.

They could save the really heavy petting for when they got the boat home.

"Well, you definitely picked your partners well."

Lucifer laughed, swaying a little with his hands still on Duke's hips. "Let's see. Octavia brings the primal energy..."

"Yeah she does," Duke said, grin going a little bit shark-y. "And you're the luxury. And I'm . . ."

The boat guy? That didn't fit the pattern.

"The hands-on man," Lucifer said, half-teasing. "With the rustic elegance."

“The guy who puts his hands on, uh, things, or the guy who gets hands on him?”

[my_own_advocate]

"Why not both?" Lucifer teased.

He sounded thoughtful, though. Sobering a bit.

"You're the man who hands-on built us a home so we don't go flying off all the time."

Duke huffed softly. "Built myself a home I could go flying off in. Then found a place and people where I wouldn't have to."

"You're still working on it even now," Lucifer pointed out. "It's not just a project for you anymore, is it?"

Duke thought about that, then shook his head.

"It's . . . what I do."

[my_own_advocate]

"So there you go," Lucifer said, grinning at him. "Octavia brings the energy, I bring the finer things, and you make sure we've got a space to enjoy them at all. And so we all use our former coping mechanisms for our collective greater good."

[betterthanaplan]

"Man, you make us sound almost functional."

[my_own_advocate]

Lucifer huffed out a soft laugh, sliding his hands up to straighten Duke's shirt (a losing battle, he was aware). "I think the three of us make each other about as functional as we have any hope to be."

Duke huffed. "We're pretty lucky then, huh."

[my_own_advocate]

Lucifer's mouth pulled into a private little smile. "I like to think so."

[betterthanaplan]

Duke tugged him into another quick kiss.

"Let's buy this sucker already so I can take you home and show you just how lucky you are."

[my_own_advocate]

"Is that a no on drinking and further carousing tonight?" Lucifer teased.

He had no objections.

[betterthanaplan]

"We can do that at home," Duke said. "Or go out after. I'm easy."

[my_own_advocate]

"On occasion," Lucifer teased. "But-- yes."

He finally slipped past Duke, pushing his head back up to the upper deck. "We'll take it!"

The man up there looked... unimpressed. "I gathered."
