Baltimore Boating Center, Wednesday Afternoon

Duke wanted a small boat to add to their growing fleet. Lucifer-- wanted to take Duke out on a date, which he hadn't done in a little while, and the trip to and from would be scenic. Afterwards, they could grab some food at a nearby restaurant and make a night of it. Possibly ending at the mansion.

It all seemed to make sense.

And so he pulled into the marina well into the afternoon, the wind in his hair and a smile on his face. "Here we are," he said, bringing the car to a stop. "Home to many a baby boat."

He was just saying it to annoy Duke, at this point.

"They're all so shiny," Duke groused. (Almost) entirely for show. "You know, I was thinking more of, like . . . a dinghy. Not a small yacht. I'm not planning to live on it."

"They have... dinghys," Lucifer argued. "... Smaller ships."

"Sailboats?" Duke asked hopefully.

"I honestly did not check," Lucifer admitted. "I didn't know you wanted a sailboat. But we can check another marina if this doesn't have what you're looking for."

Duke nodded. "Thanks, babe." He leaned over to pop a kiss on Lucifer's cheek.

He had plenty of money for a small boat himself, but Lucifer liked buying them things, so Duke was happy to let him this time.

Buying things was part of his love language, shhh.

"Well," Lucifer said, smiling. "After you, then."

Yeah, Duke noticed that around when Lucifer had bought him an entire marina.

He set out towards the boats along the water, hands slipped into the pockets of his jeans, the very picture of a lazy sailor on his day off. Cigar boats and yachts, far as the eye could see.

It was a very Lucifer place, wasn't it.

Well, it wasn't like he knew any other kind of boat place to go.

Lucifer followed after him, phone in hand, already googling other marinas. Just in case.

"Not a sail in sight," Duke said with a showy sigh. "There are a couple nice ones, though. If you ever decide you need your own boat, now that you're attached to boat people."

"I was just saying to Octavia that it's a miracle you haven't tried to push me to yet," Lucifer said, looking up at Duke from his phone. "She seemed convinced I'd buy a cruise liner."

Duke laughed. "I mean. Is she wrong?"

"Yes," Lucifer said, scandalized. "I can do tasteful and coordinate with your rust-bucket and Octavia's miniature home."

"So . . . one of the little cruise liners," Duke teased. "It's alright, you can admit it. We love that you love luxury."

"Just because you have lower standards doesn't mean every decent boat is a cruise liner," Lucifer sniffed.

[betterthanaplan]

"If it has a hot tub, it's a cruise liner," Duke said. He pulled his phone out. "Right. These are pretty and all, but I was really thinking something more day-trip-y. Think . . . smaller than the Samsara. Ooo!" He turned his phone, showing Lucifer a picture. "We could look at that one!"

He was at least partially trolling Lucifer, yes.

Lucifer leaned over, and... recoiled.

"That," he said. "Is not a boat."

"Yes it is," Duke said. "It's just not a ship."

It was barely a step above a raft.

"It's a piece of cloth between two arguably floating buckets," Lucifer told him. "It's not a boat."

"It's perfect for just tooling around the island."

[my_own_advocate]

"Well, if that's what you want, I can just pay Tiny to slap something together."

[betterthanaplan]

"Hey now. Just because he's great with booze doesn't make him a boat maker," Duke said, pressing the phone to his chest as though offended in the little dinghy's favor. "Fine, if you're going to grouse about it all the time, I'll find something more traditional."

"I just want something that looks like it's not going to dump you in the water in a slight breeze," Lucifer sniffed.

He held out his phone. "There are some other places in the state we can go to for your sailboats."

Duke heaved a performative sigh. "If you insist. We'll go look. Any of them sell vintage boats?"

Lucifer shot him an idle look. "If you keep narrowing this search down, I'm going to have to go back to the catalogue idea."

He held the phone out for Duke to take. "Still too big?"

"I don't need a forty foot boat," Duke said, shaking his head as he looked over the listing Lucifer had pulled up. "That 21 footer might be nice, though. . . ."
