The Cape Rouge, Sunday Morning

Three people on this boat had been on the pub crawl last night. One of them hadn't drunk any alcohol, another had a celestial liver, and then... well, there was Duke.

Poor drunk Duke, who they'd carried - carefully - onto the Rouge last night and who was likely to experience a truly horrific hangover when he woke up sometime in the next few hours. Lucifer had already set out a glass of water and some painkillers for him, and was inclined to leave it that way, since hungover Duke also had the potential to be very funny.

But for whatever reason, it was morning and he was awake. And Duke wasn't, yet. And another instinct overrode his desire to stay in bed and make fun of the inevitable crash.

So he slunk out of bed, into the kitchen, and started cooking.

Another manly whimper, more flailing, and a faint, swallowed gag as the scent of the meat woke Duke’s stomach, and it reminded him it was as pissed about last night as his head was.

He rolled over, eyes squeezed tightly shut against the light coming in through the skylight, and tried again for the water.

“Remind me not to go on a pub crawl with Summer again.”

"She does embody the College Party Girl spirit better than almost anyone I have ever met," Lucifer said, "Bar Doctor Linda on special occasions."

He set the tray down on the bed, and promptly moved to press the water into Duke's hand.

Octavia sat up slowly, for no other reason except that she wasn't in any rush.

Also she wanted to see what was on the tray.

And then promptly reached for the bowl with fruit.

Duke muttered a thank you and pushed himself up just enough to drink the water.

“Holy shit my head.”

"You really outdid yourself last night," Lucifer agreed, pressing a painkiller into his hand a moment later.

"It was a sight to see," Octavia chimed in, with some more of that gentle, wry amusement of someone who'd chosen a different route, but wasn't entirely without empathy.

“This is entirely unfair,” Duke said, groping for the meds now. “I should not be the only one in this relationship who has hangovers.”

"You wouldn't be having any if you hadn't drank quite as much as you had," Lucifer reminded him, amused.

As soon as Duke got his hands on the medication, he pulled away.

But only so he could get settled under the sheets again, himself.

Octavia had nothing to add to that, because suggesting he stop drinking, too, did not seem like it'd go over well. Even right now.

So she got started on her sticky rice.

"It was Summer's 21st," Duke said, once he'd swallowed the pills. "Wasn't gonna not get drunk."

And then once he had, the night had just kept going. . . .

"There's drunk, and then there's drunk," Lucifer pointed out, wrapping an arm around Duke as he curled in closer.

"This one was the latter," Octavia agreed.

Honestly, she would not have been surprised if Duke turned out to not remember she'd even been there.

“No shit,” Duke said with a sigh. “Guess you heard stories, huh? I assume Lucifer had to pour me into bed last night.”

The last thing he remembered with any clarity was the creepy mounted walrus head.

"Oh, she actually came to meet us at Lux," Lucifer said, amused grin still on his face. "So we both poured you into bed last night."

Octavia nodded. "So I did hear stories," she said, reaching out to gently pat Duke's shoulder, "but they were at Lux."

See? Not surprised.

Duke squeezed his eyes shut and rubbed the bridge of his nose.

"And, uh. How big of an ass did I make out of myself, then?"

Seriously, this wasn't fair at all.

Lucifer laughed. "You were adorable."

Octavia rubbed at Duke's shoulder a little bit more, then drew her hand back.

"It's fine, jaka," she murmured. "Nothing too embarassing."

Duke let out a deep sigh, then reached for the tray of food. "Anyone mind if we just . . . stay in bed all day?"

"Not in the slightest," Lucifer said. "I am very comfortable here."

He pressed a kiss against Duke's shoulder.

Octavia's snort was soft.

"I don't have anywhere else to be."

"Good," Duke said on a sigh, and took a delicate bite of some bacon. "Seriously, though, I didn't do or say anything weird, did I? I've been told I get kind of . . . silly when I get blackout drunk."

Lucifer snorted. "You were mostly just very affectionate," he said. "I would've stopped you drinking earlier, but you seemed to be having a good time."

He was absolutely not bringing up that ILU, no.

"You also spilled water on yourself."

Terrible, really.

"Like . . ." Duke squinted into the middle distance. ". . . On purpose?"
